Healthcare: Good Samaritan Hospital Announces Plans for a New Medical Center on the West Side of Cincinnati
Ground will soon be broken on Good Samaritan Medical Center at Western Ridge, a new medical center in the northern portion of Cincinnati’s West Side near the Harrison/Rybolt exit off of Interstate 74. The facility will offer 45,000 square feet of Good Samaritan-quality healthcare services and physician offices, including a 24-hour emergency department.
Earthwork is set to begin July 2009. Building construction is scheduled to begin Fall 2009 with an anticipated opening Fall 2010. Road improvement will also be done in tandem with this project.
“The single most important component of TriHealth’s mission and strategy is to serve our communities,” said John Prout, president and CEO of TriHealth and Good Samaritan Hospital. “The Western Ridge complex allows us to bring Good Samaritan-quality services into the backyards of West Side residents and also provides room to respond to that community’s needs well into the future.”
In addition to the full-service emergency department with ambulance access and a helipad, Good Samaritan Medical Center at Western Ridge will provide patients with convenient access to physicians, as well as X-ray imaging, CT scans and 24-hour lab. Future expansions of diagnostic services will add MRI and mammography.
“Good Samaritan Hospital is already an important health care provider to patients on the west side of Cincinnati, and the new medical center at Western Ridge shows our dedication to those patients by responding to their demand for better access to our quality services,” said David Dornheggen, vice president and chief operating officer of Good Samaritan Hospital.
To make the medical center more patient-centered, primary care and specialist physician offices will be available on-site, making Good Samaritan Medical Center at Western Ridge a true one-stop shop for families’ medical needs. By combining physician offices, diagnostics and an emergency department in the same building, the facility will promote integration and quality of care that lives up to Good Samaritan’s longstanding reputation for excellence. High-tech patient registration, file transfer and other features will electronically connect the Western Ridge facility to Good Samaritan Hospital, which will help to make patients’ visits efficient while maintaining the same level of compassionate, quality care that is expected from Good Samaritan.
“One advantage of being part of a health system is the ability to share best practices,” said Steve Mombach, vice president of Ambulatory Services and Senior Health for TriHealth. “Through Bethesda Medical Center at Arrow Springs, TriHealth has experience in the integration of ambulatory care with hospital quality and processes. We’re bringing that successful model to the backyards of the Good Samaritan Hospital patients who need and want it most.”
Built through a partnership between TriHealth and BremnerDuke Healthcare Real Estate, Good Samaritan Medical Center at Western Ridge is the first phase of a large medical complex on a five parcel development. Good Samaritan will retain an additional site for future growth, while the other lots will be sold for complementary medical and/or retail development. Occupation of the first three of five lots has the potential to bring more than 150 new jobs to Green Township.
“Good Samaritan Medical Center at Western Ridge is the anchor site for what will ultimately be the preferred health care destination for West Side patients,” said Keith Konkoli, regional senior vice president of BremnerDuke. “The health care real estate industry has become increasingly sophisticated. What we bring to the table is the capital strength and local real estate expertise necessary to create a successful medical complex of this magnitude.”
