Healthcare: Carolinas HealthCare System awards contract to BE&K Building Group

Carolinas HealthCare System has hired a local subsidiary of a Houston-based engineering and construction company to help expand Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville.
Under the agreement, KBR Inc. subsidiary BE&K Building Group will assist with 245,000 square feet of construction, including a 114-bed patient tower, a maternity-center expansion and the addition of a surgical unit.
The project also calls for 56,000 square feet of renovations throughout the 109-bed hospital.
Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
Charlotte-based BE&K Building Group recently completed other construction projects on the CMC-Pineville campus, including a medical office building and parking facility.

Charlotte-based Carolinas HealthCare is the largest health-care system in the Carolinas and the third-largest public system in the nation. The system owns, leases or manages 32 hospitals. Its flagship hospital is Carolinas Medical Center, an 874-bed hospital in midtown Charlotte.
