Senior Housing: NCR gets $7.9M for assisted-living conversions

Business First of Columbus

A $7.9 million round of federal funding will help Columbus’ National Church Residences continue projects at two managed properties to convert some independent-living units into assisted-living facilities.

The nonprofit said it was awarded funding this week through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Assisted Living Conversion Program. A $3.99 million grant is headed to Chillicothe’s Hopeton Village, while a $3.97 million grant will be used for work at Portage Trail Village in Cuyahoga Falls.

At Hopeton, NCR says it’s using the funding to convert 25 units on the building’s second and third floors into assisted-living units. The 109-unit building converted more than 30 units in recent years using a previous infusion of HUD funding. The Portage Trail project entails the conversion of 39 of its 199 units. NCR said 32 units previously had been converted to assisted-living facilities with HUD funding.

NCR has said the goal of the conversions is to allow residents to maintain a high quality of life and save Medicare and Medicaid costs.

Founded in 1961, NCR owns or manages more than 320 affordable senior and family communities nationwide along with five health-care facilities in Ohio.
