Healthcare: Health care drives new office buildings

More people demanding more health care services outside of the hospital setting is giving rise to a new crop of medical office buildings in Middle Tennessee.

A half dozen prominent projects have been announced or completed in recent months. Several involve local health systems such as Vanderbilt University Medical Center and HCA’s TriStar Health System, whose Centennial Medical Center broke ground this month on a $26 million medical office building in Nashville.

But private developers also are behind the increased activity in the medical office space, lured by the relative stability of health care and the promise of increased demand
