Healthcare: Medical Office Sector Continues Healthy Run

Atlanta – A panel of guests on the latest edition of the “Commercial Real Estate Show” agreed that healthcare real estate has held up well, despite the lingering impact of The Great Recession. The future continues to look bright in the medical office sector, despite uncertainty around healthcare reform, the panel said.

An estimated 32 million additional people are going to be coming on the healthcare rolls, according to Michael Barry, a partner at Arnall Golden Gregory in Atlanta. “They are going to have to receive that care somewhere,” he said.

Orest Mandzy, president and managing Editor of Commercial Real Estate Direct, said that investor interest in medical office and healthcare real estate is growing, including among institutional investors. He said the number of REITS focusing on these sectors has doubled in recent years.

Bay, Mandzy and other experts on medical office and healthcare real estate discussed the topic on the most recent edition of the “Commercial Real Estate Show,” a radio show hosted by Michael Bull on Biz 1190 WAFS in Atlanta. The nationally focused program also is available at the show’s website.

The next “Commercial Real Estate Show” will air Saturday and will focus on landlord office leasing strategies. Guests will include Chris Macke, senior real estate strategist at CoStar Group; Mike Lipsey, president of Lipsey Co., which provides training and consulting services for the commercial real estate industry; and Andrew Zezas, instructor at the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors and president of Real Estate Strategies Corp.
