The developer of a proposed $125 million film studio in Moorpark has taken over the project without authorization.

Following on the heels of an announcement in Governor Granholm’s State of the State Address last night, Hangar42 Studios today officially announces the opening of its nearly 500,000-square-foot full-service film production studio in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The state Board of Finance on Tuesday approved restructuring of a Santa Fe County land sale that gives Santa Fe Studios the right to start building. The board voted 2-1 for the move after reviewing an updated study on the economic feasibility of the film studio, which will be off N.M. 14 near the Penitentiary of New Mexico at the Santa Fe County Media Park.

Hollywood dreams are one step closer to becoming a reality for Connecticut with the announcement Monday that Connecticut Studios LLC is expected to file plans with the town’s Planning Department on Friday.

The City Council Monday night authorized issuing $39.9 million in bonds to build a 150,000-square-foot studio for Digital Domain Holdings, a company expected to launch the region into the field of digital animation, gaming and military simulation.

Town officials and residents were taken by surprise yesterday when news broke that developers of a proposed $550 million movie studio on the South Shore had severed ties with their major lender. But some remained supportive of the team of film executives behind Plymouth Rock Studios.

A $20 million film complex with a 20,000-square-foot “green screen” dome and training facility is planned for Macomb County. The 360-degree Vanir Dome and classrooms are to be built on 26 acres off Elizabeth Road, south of Hall Road, according to township officials and Macomb-based Vanir Entertainment.

Michigan’s film industry incentives include a 25 percent tax credit for infrastructure projects, and several are currently under way in metro Detroit.

A group of local investors would finance a film production and training facility in Pontiac in part with $23 million to $28 million in bonds issued through the Oakland County Economic Development Corp. under a project plan that cleared two regulatory hurdles last week.

The item still needs approval from the State Senate and Assembly, but film executives are confident the rebate program will pass.
