Edgewood Management Group, LLC. (EMG) a Midwest operator of assisted living communities recently announced that it has entered into an agreement with Investors Real Estate Trust (”IRET”), an equity real estate investment trust located in Minot, North Dakota, to manage five assisted living communities in Wyoming.

Developers are considering a new retirement community to overlook 122 acres of a former golf course on its way to becoming a county nature preserve. “We operate campuses like this in Jenison, Holland, Spring Lake and Kentwood, so we have a good feel for the area,” Oak Crest Manor President Charles Schipper told the Holland Planning Commission Tuesday.

At first, Margaret Nelson-Merwin didn’t want to move into an assisted living apartment. She didn’t think her nearly 13-year-old chow, Sophie, would like it either. “The doctor recommended it,” said Nelson-Merwin, 71. “The dog and I were both used to a big house.”

Nobody noticed it when Gov. Paterson unveiled his budget plan last month, but a massive cut to local senior programs is buried in the fine print. If approved the cut could force them to close between 30 and 75 NYC senior centers.

One of Portland’s best-known architects is breaking ground on a $45 million cooperative housing project for seniors. The 62-unit Sheldon Cooperative will be among the first co-ops of its kind in Oregon.

Demolition is imminent at the closed St. Joseph Hospital, which will be replaced by a $179 million senior-living complex. The project, called Aberdeen Heights, will have 243 apartments on what had been the hospital’s 18-acre site. Some apartments are scheduled to be ready by September 2011.

A proposed $10 million senior housing complex cleared one of several pending hurdles on Tuesday. The village Board of Trustees voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve a zoning change in a residential neighborhood on Anna Maria Drive, where the proposed 155-unit housing complex will be located.

Two new subsidized assisted living facilities are expected to open in the Southland by the end of next year. The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services recently announced that Chicago Heights and Blue Island will be among communities throughout the state getting the new facilities.

After almost an hour discussing drainage, parking, and architectural designs, Palatine councilmen Monday night unanimously approved preliminary plans to construct a three-story, 75-unit, 105-bed assisted living facility on Quentin Road where the current Mia’s Nursery exists.
